Hip Hop Legend Heavy D had just made his first public performance in 15 years at this year BET Hip Hop Awards. His swagger was intact and he was still jumping around the scene like he was in his prime. So it's a shock to hear that the actor, rapper, record producer, singer and former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz rap group has passed today in LA.

He's the one who put Pete Rock his cousin on the map as well as Diddy. Indeed Harlem notorious Bad Boy started as a dancer for Heavy D who was then signed to Upown Records. Heavy D glorious time were many. Albums Living Large, Peaceful Journey or Nothing Bu Love were big commercial success. He also was the first rapper to work with Michael Jackson on the track Jam. In 1990 The group got hit by the passing of member Troubled T Roy who will forever enter Hip Hop History with the classic tribute by Pete Rock & CL Smooth "T.R.O.Y." (They reminisce Over You). He's one of the first Hip Hop figure to become successful as an all around performer: MC, Singer, Dancer, Producer and Actor.

The "Overweight Lover" as he was lovingly called helped us found Love.. one thing we gonna do with it for sure is to give him and his legacy a lot back.

Yo my mate George's been doing his thing for a while now along with his ManMakeMusic crew but it took me some time to give it a proper ear. The fear of the probability that I was not going to like the music of a friend and that I had to come up with diplomatic ways to say it was just decent stuff is probably the explanation of that. If he had to grow into a great producer It would come back to me anyway right?! Yeah I know I can be a dick.

Even though it didn't really exactly come to my ear yet, after meeting with him again a few weeks back it made me wanna get more into his world. As the result of somehow special circomstances along with fellow Jimaan, we spent the week-end singing Drake stuff and dancing to Zouk and other Sun music along with Senegalese friends. What you need to know is that the guy produces music described as combination of House, Garage and Bass. You've probably understood by now that this guy is a free spirit and I relate to that. So today I got on his Soundcloud page and boom. I feel his music. I bet you will too. This what notorious online electronic magazine Resident Advisor had to say about the man

Sidy Kouyaté est un personnage. Si vous êtes parisien(ne) son visage vous dira peut-être qqch. Peut-être l'auriez vous croisé au shop Carhartt St Honoré, où il bossait ou alors peut-être encore dans le bar branché le Pompon, que tiennent avec succès des amis à lui. Ou alors c'est peut être sur cette vidéo virale comique "Best of Swagg" qui a tourné un moment sur facebook... Vous l'aurez donc compris, Sidy Kouyaté est un homme bien ancré dans son époque. Mais cette description serait injustement insuffisante pour décrire ce jeune franco-malien, agitateur, penseur, déconneur et avant tout homme de foi devant l'Eternel. Il écrit des textes, des poèmes et des chansons, compose ses musiques et réalise ses vidéos sans prétention et sans complexe non plus. Bref ce type est habité. Sympatique et inspiré c'est un personnage atypique que l'on remarque et que l'on retient une fois l'occasion d'échanger avec lui donné. Il apporte du fond et ça ne fait pas de mal. Au contraire. Aujourd'hui sur son site Danslabsolu.com il nous fait découvrir "Legacy", une production musicale mise en image dans les rues de Bamako emprunt d'un voile mystique et apaisant. A suivre

Chad is now in a group called Missile Command with Hip Hop Dan, I guess its kind of like a major lazer, crookers type thing? “Chad Hugo - Pharrell’s partner in The Neptunes and N*E*R*D – is just as important for his talent on multiple instruments in crafting the songs. Hugo’s latest project is a DJ collective called Missile Command, in which he’s joined by local boy Hip-Hop Dan.
“Last summer, Chad Hugo – yes, this Chad Hugo – recruited Hip-Hop Dan to form the DJ team Missile Command. After years of DJing, Hugo viewed Missile Command as an opportunity to get back to the grassroots of the art, and saw Hip-Hop Dan as the perfect partner. It proved to be the chance of a lifetime for Hip-Hop Dan, taking him on the road with N*E*R*D and placing him in the studio with artists such as Chris Brown, Drake, Pitbull and Jojo among others. La chance m'a été donné de te rencontrer il y a environ 10 ans et même dans la fougue et l'arrogance de la jeunesse on te remarque. Tu m'as toujours intrigué. Sans même vraiment te connaître à ce moment là, ton attitude calme que j'observais, ton visage souriant, ton énergie toujours volontaire et inspirée constituaient la promesse d'une belle rencontre. Une de celle qui marque et qui ne cesse de dévoiler sa valeur au cours du temps. Une porte qui s'ouvre vers un voyage qu'on a l'impression d'avoir rêvé tant il est plaisant et enrichissant. Et puis c'est toujours naturel. Sans forcer comme dirait mes pairs d'Evry.

A cette époque la Mafia K1fry était déjà en haut de l'affiche et alors que ce rap de rue brut et authentique déferlait dans les tous les quartiers de France, toi le type souriant, respectueux et tellement souverain en était l'un de ses architectes sonores en chef. Je percevais la pièce que tu incarnais dans cet ensemble improbable comme un révélateur, tel le gage qu'il s'agissait de bien plus qu'une mode.

J'ai eu ensuite la chance de mieux te connaître et de rapidement me rendre compte que tu faisais effectivement parti de ces gens avec un amour vrai et humble pour la musique. Quelqu'un qui faisait plus qu'il ne parlait et qui ne se souciait pas des facéties de l'industrie.

Dès lors je savais qu'on se reverrai ou du moins j'en avais envie.

En 2003 malgré que tu fasses parti d'une famille rapologique qui n'avait pas toujours été dans les meilleurs termes avec certains de mon entourage, je t'ai appeller pour collaborer sur l'abum de Disiz qu'il m'avait été donné de réaliser et tu as répondu présent. A cette époque je n'avais que l'habitude de collaborations type fast food: tu commandes, on te livre et tu consommes.

Quelle belle experience ce fut chez toi ou en studio que de discuter et d'élaborer ce track.

Je me remémore ce processus comme une expérience qui m'a touché au delà des frontières du projet musical.

La première fois que je suis venu chez toi et que j'ai vu ton lifestyle je me rappelle d'une voix me dire dans ma tête ma tête "mais c'est ça la vie!".

Avant de commencer un tableau, Fafi m'a agrémenté d'une biscotte Wasa avec du babybel et là encore une voix m'a dit "tiens tu devrais acheter des Wasa plus souvent". Et le goût de cette apres midi fut à l'image de cet encas, frais, inhabituel, inspirant et simple à la fois. On a écouté bcp de son, des blend que t'avais fait avec des accap de Nas & Biggie, tu as joué de la guitare encore et encore, on a échangé bcp d'idées et la suite s'est passé en studio.

Tu m'as alors dit que tu voulais faire jouer un vrai violoncelle pour le track. Je me suis dit "mais putain il fait chier celui là, il va éclater le budget" juste le temps de comprendre que j'étais en train d'apprendre le métier et qu'il était à nous de repousser les frontières de notre Art et d'être ambitieux dans notre création. Et pour ça je te remercie.

Tel un chemin vertueux commencé au 36 rené Boulanger grace à mon grand frère spirituel Thibaut de Longeville avec qui on bossait sur l'univers visuel du disque de Disiz, cela m'a ensuite mené à toi pour un track hors norme qui nous fit voyager jusqu'à Dakar pour en tourner un clip magnifique et improbable avec encore une de mes plus belles rencontre Xavier de Nauw.

Je garde ces moments précieusement dans mon coeur.

S'il nous est arrivé ensuite de faire la fête comme jamais dans différentes villes d'Europe ce que j'attendais le plus était de collaborer à nouveau avec toi.. "doing music, sharing that connection is something else".

L'artiste que tu étais m'as donc touché et impressionné mais cela n'est rien comparé à l'homme que j'ai rencontré. Dans cet univers de la musique et de la nuit souvent sombre, tu brillais par ton authenticité et ta gentillesse, à tel point que tu arrivais à rassembler les opposés. Tu es de ceux que l'on regarde et qui inspirent. Tout le monde t'aimait. Tu es parti brutalement et beaucoup trop tôt. Le trou que tu laisses derrière toi est à l'image de l'impact que tu as eu dans nos vies. J'ai une pensée des plus sincères pour ta famille et tes proches. On ne t'oubliera pas Mehdi
